Comfort food at its finest! These mini potato and ground beef gratins combine creamy layers of mashed potatoes, flavorful meat filling, and a rich béchamel sauce topped with golden, melted cheese. Perfect for a cozy family meal or an elegant dinner party.
Ingredients: (4 PERSONS)
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 5 large potatoes
- 3 tablespoons milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cheese triangle
- A pinch of nutmeg
For the Filling:
- 400g ground beef
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- Tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Paprika
- Cumin
- Ginger
- Garlic powder
For the Béchamel Sauce:
- 200ml milk
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A pinch of nutmeg
Meanwhile, prepare the filling. In a skillet, heat a drizzle of oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the ground beef and cook while stirring. Mix in the tomato sauce, spices (salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, ginger, and garlic powder), and let simmer until the mixture is flavorful and slightly reduced.
Next, prepare the béchamel sauce. Combine all the béchamel ingredients (milk, oil, flour, salt, pepper, and nutmeg) in a blender or a bowl and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the béchamel thickens.
For assembly: In mini molds, start with a thin layer of béchamel at the bottom. Add a layer of mashed potatoes, followed by a layer of the ground beef filling. Sprinkle with a thin layer of grated cheese, then add another layer of mashed potatoes. Finish with a layer of béchamel and generously sprinkle grated cheese on top.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly. Serve hot!
