Easy Chicken Calzone: A Flavorful Pizza Pocket Delight

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt (unsweetened)
  • 150 ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • Salt

For the filling:

  • 400 g chicken breast, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • 2 onions
  • Mushrooms
  • Salt, pepper, ginger
  • Olive oil
  • Pizza sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Grated cheese
Preparation method:

To prepare the dough, start by placing the plain yogurt, warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast in a bowl. Let it rest for a few minutes to allow the yeast to activate. Then, add the flour, oil, and egg. Knead the dough with a mixer or by hand, adding about 40 ml of water to help bring it together. Knead until you achieve a smooth and homogeneous dough, then cover it and let it rest for half an hour.

For the filling, heat olive oil in a pan, then add the onions sliced into thin strips. Sauté until they become translucent, then add the colored bell peppers cut into strips. Incorporate the diced chicken along with the spices, and then add the sliced mushrooms. Mix everything well and cook for a few minutes.

Once the dough has rested, roll it out on a floured surface using a rolling pin, ensuring you achieve a thickness that is neither too thin nor too thick. Cut a circle from the dough. On one half of the circle, spread a layer of pizza sauce, then add the prepared filling, followed by a generous portion of grated cheese. Fold the other half of the dough over to form the calzone, pressing the edges together to seal them well, folding them slightly for a neat finish.

Before baking, brush the surface with olive oil and decorate with pieces of mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and sesame seeds if you have them. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes, until the calzone is golden and crispy. Enjoy this homemade delight!
